Cosmetic Surgery Rises Among Latinos

There is no ready translation in Spanish for "extreme makeover." But this has not prevented a soaring number of Hispanics from pursuing plastic surgery. Between 2000 and 2004, the total number of cosmetic procedures performed on US Hispanics jumped by 49 percent, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Dr. James H. Wells, a former president of the ASPS, says "The biggest {factor} is the advent of reality television. It has allowed people to have a peek at {cosmetic surgery}." And voyeuristic viewers, including many Latinos like what they see.
